In short: do not hire Whittington Professional Services LLC.
Save yourself time, money and nerves.
- They are not capable to complete the work they get paid to do.
- They do not appear to hold any licenses, which means there is no professional standard for them to uphold.
- Even though they are unlicensed, they will take up work for which licensing is required, in contravention to the California Business and Professions Code, specifically CA Bus & Prof Code § 7028 (2024). The penalties for this include fines, jail time or both.
This is a review of Whittington Professional Services LLC, owned by Brandy Whittington, a remodeler operating in Tuolumne County, California, in Twain Harte and a 50-mile radius. The company’s registration with California Secretary of State has the Entity (File) Number 202134910076, and is accessible via the CA SOS Business Search.
Note that companies are easy to close and reopen under new name, so be aware of the owner name as well as the company name.
From our experience, we conclude that nobody should hire this company for renovation work on their properties.
Of course you can decide for yourself, but we recommend that you do not hire them, and that you keep looking. They seem to have some good testimonials on the Internet at large, but given our experience I strongly suspect that these reviews may not be genuine.
Our Claims
I am preparing a detailed account of our encounter with Whittington Professional Services LLC, with reports and photo evidence. In the meantime, as we wait for the search engines to ingest this review, note the following claims:
- Incompetent: Whittington Professional Services LLC was contracted to remodel our two bathrooms and a fireplace.
- Their first attempt at the bathrooms was a teardown.
- We allowed them to return and attempt to cure the issue, which ended in them puncturing a hole through the newly installed bathtub.
- We fired them at that point.
- Slow: It took them 4 weeks to complete the assignment.
- Of that about 1 week was spent on the fireplace remodel, and about 3 weeks on the bathroom remodels.
- The new crew we hired afterwards to undo the mistakes redid the bathroom work properly, and it took them 3 days total.
- Fraudulent: Whittington Professional Services LLC will take on work for which contractor license is required, while not holding a contractor license themselves.
Damage incurred
We spent about $11,500 in labor and material on Whittington Professional Services LLC. Out of which at least $7,500 was spent on unusable results.
Results:
- The delivered work for the bathrooms was a complete teardown.
- Additionally, the newly installed bathtub was punctured due to inadequate work site protection.
- They delivered work for the fireplace remodel. Not ideal, but we can live with it.
- They sanitized some issues found during demolition, which we were charged for separately. This was acceptable, though we have not re-verified that sanitization was done properly.
Specific problems
- Uneven floor tiling, fragile and crumbling grouting, improper gluing.
- Uneven wall tiling, fragile grouting has already cracked.
- Insufficient adhesion to the wall, the wall tiles peeled off.
- Punctured newly installed bathtub.
- Plumbing not to code, not properly secured.
- Shower plumbing inside the wall was leaking and soaking the wall.
- Shower fixture not properly installed and not properly secured.
- They were given a chance to fix the work, and the result was another teardown.
Proof
I will backfill this with photos and report proof and add them to this page as I line all of them up, which will take some time.
While you wait on the photos, you can inspect the raw photo and video material from the teardown. Without commentary it might be harder to understand what is going on, so I plan to put the material below with commentary.
We are not alone
Chances are that you do not know me. You have no way of knowing if I’m telling the truth, or if I’m only bitter about a botched job.
I leave it to you to reach your own conclusion. I will however note that we are far from the only ones who noticed and raised their voice about the transgressions of Whittington Professional Services LLC. Several people report similar experiences with the same company:
- A person reported to Better Business Bureau that Whittington Professional Services LLC built them a deck, and that the deck collapsed after 2 months.
- The contractor we hired to repair the remodel noted that they had another repair job. While he did not know the contractor detail, the info he provided makes us believe this was yet another victim of Whittington Professional Services LLC.
- Another person on Yelp reports very similar experience with tiling work as ours.
- Yet another person reports botched pond repair, also on Yelp.
- About a handful other reports, all on Yelp. Go there and filter by one-star reviews.
