Here’s an overview of my favorite real estate reference manuals. These are the books which, in my opinion, form the smallest finite cover of the topics falling under the general umbrella of real estate investing.
I’m happy to add more to this list, let me know if you know worthwhile titles to include.
Books from this list are also mentioned in other articles on this site, but why not have a neat table here, too.
| Book | Where to find it | Notes |
| Real Estate Investor’s Deskbook | 2025 ed., from the publisher. | Older editions can be found on eBay, at a much more accessible price point. |
| The Appraisal of Real Estate | Amazon | Older editions can be found on eBay. I got mine at a library giveaway. |
| The Hands-Off Investor | Amazon, Audible. | A guide for a would-be limited partner. But, also useful to a would-be syndicator, for understanding what investors are looking for. |
| Best Ever Apartment Syndication Book | Amazon, Audible. | A guide for would-be syndicators. Also useful to a would-be investor, for seeing things from the syndicator’s perspective. |
| Making the Yield: Real Estate Hard Money Lending Uncovered | Amazon, Audiobook. | A guide for would-be lenders. But also, for borrowers who want to understand what lenders expect. |
| Real Estate Appraisal Deskbook | Amazon | For a while this was my goto book for appraisal. I would now replace it by “The Appraisal of Real Estate” noted above. |
| Hotel Investments Handbook | Here. | 2002 edition, contains treatment of all matters related to lodging and hospitality. |
