In September 2020 we bought a mountain house in Twain Harte, California, expecting that renting it out now and then would pay for it. Since December 2023 we have also rented out a beach condo in Panama City Beach, Florida. This book covers the short-term rental in depth, from both houses: picking a market and a house, financing a second home, setting a place up, pricing every night of the year, running it from a distance, guests and reviews, taxes and insurance, regulation, marketing past the platforms, and whether it was worth it.

It is the sequel to Our Adventures in Real Estate: What We Learned, and it is written the same way: first person, every number with its year, and the parts that went badly told as plainly as the parts that went well. It is for people who own their first short-term rental or are about to buy one. It is not for readers who want to get rich quickly.
